Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 4, 2026
1. Introduction
Your privacy is important to us. It is Vanish's policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect from you across our Chrome Extension and its associated website.
2. Data Collection and Storage
Vanish operates entirely on your device and your Google account. We do not collect, transmit, or store your personal data on any of our own servers. Your hidden element preferences are saved using the `chrome.storage.sync` API, which securely synchronizes your settings across your signed-in devices using your Google account. A local backup is also kept via `chrome.storage.local`.
This means that only you have access to your data. If you uninstall the extension, your local data will be deleted by the browser, and your synced data can be managed via your Google account.
3. Third-Party Services
We do not integrate any third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising scripts within the extension.
4. Changes to This Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
5. Chrome Web Store Disclosures
To comply with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies, we provide the following explicit disclosures regarding the extension's purpose, permissions, and data usage:
Single Purpose
A simple browser extension that allows users to permanently hide distracting elements on webpages with a single click.
Permission Justifications
- activeTab: The
activeTabpermission is required to temporarily inject the element selection interface into the currently active page when the user clicks the extension icon. This enables the core functionality of hovering and selecting elements to hide. - storage: The
storagepermission is needed to save the user's hidden element preferences (CSS selectors) usingchrome.storage.sync. This ensures that elements the user has chosen to hide remain hidden across browser sessions and synchronize across their signed-in devices. - scripting: The
scriptingpermission is used to execute the content script and inject the necessary CSS styles into the webpage to hide the specific elements the user has chosen to remove. - Host Permissions (*://*/*): Host permissions (
*://*/*) are required because the user can choose to hide elements on any webpage they visit. The extension must be able to load its hidden element styles and interact with the DOM on all websites for the core feature to function universally.
Remote Code
We certify that we do not use any remote code. All JavaScript logic is fully contained within the extension package.
Data Usage & Collection Certifications
We certify that the following disclosures are true:
- We may collect Personally Identifiable Information, Financial and payment information, and Authentication information strictly for the purposes of account management, security, and processing payments.
- We do not collect Health information, Personal communications, Location data, Web history, User activity, or Website content.
- We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties, outside of the approved use cases.
- We do not use or transfer user data for purposes that are unrelated to the item's single purpose.
- We do not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
